An Operating System is the low-level software that manages a computer. It controls the way your hardware functions, the communication with peripheral devices for instance a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between applications, and the prioritization of apps in case multiple ones run simultaneously. Every program which is installed on a computer system works by sending requests to the OS for various services using an application program interface (API). The communication with the OS can be performed via a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the hosting field, the Operating System is what commands a server and all of the software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but, in addition every other application for instance a VOIP or a game server. When there are virtual machines created, they use a guest OS that runs on the server host OS.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
We provide as many as 3 different Linux distributions for the Operating System of our VPS servers
- Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are among the most stable and reliable OSs you can find and we provide all three of them rather than just one because we realize that you may want to install some software that has specific requirements regarding the Operating System it shall run on. The latter is because each of the three Operating Systems has a huge support community behind it and there're different software applications you could install on the hosting server. Your OS selection will also determine exactly what hosting Control Panel can be installed on the VPS in case you wish to use one and that's why we offer several Control Panels too. In the event you decide that you need a different OS, our tech support team can quickly wipe the present one and set up the one that you would like. We also offer an optional service to maintain the OS on your VPS updated weekly.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
In case you decide to obtain one of our dedicated servers
, you shall find three Operating Systems on the registration page since we want to give you a wider choice with regard to the system environment on the server as different apps can have particular requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian include different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and benefit from a reliable and risk-free hosting service. Depending on your selection, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always change the Operating System in case the one you've selected initially does not meet the requirements of the software which you intend to run. We can also upgrade your OS on a regular basis in order to keep it as secure as possible using our Managed Services upgrade package.
